hello guys, I’ve never done music but I love electro music, dnb etc… and I’m planning on buying a little synthesizer. What software should I use, and what should I know before buying ? Thank you!
So if you’re looking at getting just a midi keyboard and use the software for the synth sounds and effects, any basic midi keyboard will do (AKAI Mini MK3 is a great little controller)and as suggested previously, use a DAW like Ableton or Cubase. these come with good stock synths and FX but there is a learning curve as you’ll be learning the DAW system too.
The only thing you should know before buying is that it will take quite some time before your tracks will sound “good”. Now for software, you will have to use a digital audio workstation (DAW). you can find free ones, however paid daws usually have more features and less limitations. If you decide on buying a daw you should download the trials of some popular ones to see which one you like. You could check out fl studio, ableton, cubase, studio one, reaper and logic pro if you’re on mac. For electronic music you probably want to go with either fl studio or ableton unless you love one of the other daws.
