I was talking with a friend recently who’s college mate is now a manager (has managed some big band names) and was basically saying that large festivals (Glastonbury, Coachella etc) end up being a kind of pay to play.
Bands get paid by the festivals (mostly) but the bands then need to cover costs of PA sound systems and teams, lighting and all the other stuff. So it works out their fees pay for them to play.
The bigger the act, the bigger the show, the bigger the bill!!
Has anyone experienced this?
I’ve heard similar. Big acts can get paid well but everyone act has to provide their own lights and sound rigs/crews etc.
